EVENTS
• MAP testing for students in grades two through five begins today and continues through Sept. 11.
• "Back to School Night" will be Sept. 1. All families are encouraged to attend. Session I will start at5:30 p.m. and session II will start at 6:30 p.m. Families can attend either session; those with two students should attend both sessions.
• The school will host an informational meeting about its volunteer reader program at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 and 10 in the media center. New and returning volunteers are encouraged to attend. BLUFFTON HIGH SCHOOL
EVENTS
• The school's Parent, Teacher, Student and Community Organization will conduct an information night from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 31. The meeting is designed to introduce attendees to guidance counselors. There will be a question-and-answer session with principal Bob Anderson.
HERITAGE ACADEMY EVENTS
• A back-to-school open house is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Parents can walk through their child's schedule, meet and greet teachers and administrators and tour the school. Light refreshments will be served in the school library.
• New student orientation for morning session students will be 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the school library; afternoon session students will meet at 12:30 p.m.
OTHER
• Honors challenge contracts are due today. It also is the last day to add or drop courses to class schedules.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL
EVENTS
• The school will hold an open house at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in the Visual Performing Arts Center.
OTHER
• Makeup senior pictures will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday on the Visual Performing Arts Center stage. A makeup session also will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

• Open house is 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1. Parents and families will meet in the Red Cafeteria and visit classrooms.
• Sept. 11 is picture day. Watch for information being sent home with students.
• The School Improvement Council and the PTA will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 14 in the media center.
HELPING HANDS
• The school's "Math-a-thon" is under way. Students will be asking for sponsors to support them as they complete math problems. The beneficiary of the sponsors' donations is St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Anyone interested in supporting a math student should call Maureen Kecmer at 843-342-4236.
• Hilton Head Island Elementary School received school supplies from the Country Club of Hilton Head during a theme night celebration.
OTHER
• Indentakid, a service to provide protection through identification for children, will again be available for interested families Sept. 1. Students will bring home information about the service and how to participate.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL
EVENTS
• MAP testing dates are as follows: eighth grade, today through Friday; seventh grade, Aug. 31 through Sept. 4; sixth grade, Sept. 8-14.
• Volleyball tryouts begin at 2:45 p.m. today in the gym. Physicals are required. Details: Jenna Coffey at jenna.coffey@beaufort.k12.sc.us.
• Intramural golf begins Tuesday and runs through Sept. 23 at the Robert Trent Jones Course in Palmetto Dunes. Times are 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. each day, and the cost is $250. Details: Doug Weaver at 843-338-9598 or pgaweaver@aol.com.
• The PTA will hold its first general meeting from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in portable classroom P-4. All parents are invited to attend.
• Picture Day is Wednesday.

HELPING HANDS
• The school's annual gourmet cookie dough fundraiser began Friday, with kick-off pep rallies for students in all grades. All orders and money are due Sept. 14.

EVENTS
• The School Planning and Management Team will meet at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The team is composed of teachers, administrators, staff and parents and makes decisions regarding finances and academics. Parents are welcome to attend.
• "Back to School Nights" will be held at 6 p.m. on the following dates: Aug. 31, pre-K through first grade; Sept. 1, grades two through five. Parents and students can meet the faculty and staff. There will also be time for parents to visit their child's classroom to learn about what may be expected for the school year.
