Bike rider injured after hit by car

A hit-and-run accident involving a car and a bicyclist Sunday afternoon on the south end of Hilton Head Island sent a 19-year-old New York man to the hospital with injuries to his head, elbow and leg, according to a Beaufort County sheriff's report released Tuesday.

The car driver, who struck the man's back bike tire on New Orleans Road, has not been identified, according to the report. The bicyclist was thrown from his bike.

The bicyclist tried to resume riding but stopped when he began to feel sick, the report said. He was treated at Hilton Head Hospital.
