A 4-year-old boy was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with potentially serious injuries after two wrecks occurred one after the other Sunday on Boundary Street near Chick-fil-A, said Lt. Dan Byrne of the Beaufort City Fire Department.

Around 2 p.m. the axle and wheel of a trailer attached to a pickup truck broke off and struck a Mitsubishi Eclipse in the windshield, Byrne said.

The driver of the Eclipse was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital by county EMS, Byrne said. Soon after, a Toyota SUV and a Honda wrecked at the same location.

A 4-year-old in the Honda was pinned by the leg and had to be extracted from the car. The boy was properly restrained in a car seat, Byrne said.
