The Children's Center of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton would like to take this opportunity to thank several groups and individuals who have given their time to help our organization.
The center's mission is to provide high quality, high impact educational and child care services that are easily accessible for everyone, whatever their economic circumstances. It is because of volunteers like the following groups and individuals that we are able to continue to provide our services.
Our thanks go to MLK Observance Committee; Bro Camp Landscaping; Nancy Diamond; Nancy Jones; Cathy Nairne; St. Andrew By-the-Sea United Methodist Church; Congregation Beth Yam; Week of Hope Work Camp; Palmetto Electric Cooperative; Beaufort County Sheriff's Office; and
Sgt. Timothy Thompson and his group of Marines from Parris Island.
Volunteers like these help us continue to provide the loving experience and quality instruction the center has given for four decades.
Thank you very much.

For 'trike' help
The Little Red Dog Foundation wants to give a huge thank you to the nonprofit organization Women in Philanthropy on Hilton Head Island for a most generous grant.
Beaufort County residents have come to know our mission of giving specially equipped therapeutic AmTrykes to the disabled. This grant will allow us to give many children with special needs a "bike."
The first special cycle given with the grant went to 5-year-old Lyberti Jackson, who has Down syndrome and is unable to ride a traditional tricycle. Because her father is based at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, the trike was given to her at the youth center there.
We also want to thank the Kiwanis Club of Beaufort. Members have assembled more than 100 special cycles for us in the past three years. This assembly was special because Kiwanians Bill Knepp and Chuck Rettig had the commanding officer of the air station, Col. John Snider, helping wield wrenches and screwdrivers.
Thanks to physical therapist Janet Oehl for doing the final fitting, and thanks to all who were there to give Lyberti cheers as she took her first ride. We all give thanks that freedom now has come for Lyberti.
The Little Red Dog Foundation would like to give Women In Philanthropy and the Kiwanis Club of Beaufort an enormous expression of gratitude for helping us with our mission.

Sun City actors
On June 28, I was privileged to attend the performance of "The King and I," which featured magnificent performances by Bob Taylor as the king, Elaine Ragland as Anna and a superb supporting cast.
These shows make our Sun City Hilton Head community unparalleled among senior retirement areas. Take note critics and detractors for what this community offers.
We also made the performance available to Bluffton residents at the Bluffton High School auditorium, although we have a beautiful new theater available on our own site. Therefore, my advice to all is to take off your blinders and smell the flowers.
