Suspects sought in armed robberies, carjacking on Hilton Head

Beaufort County Sheriff Office deputies are investigating two weekend armed robberies and a carjacking that happened on Hilton Head Island, according to two Sheriff's Office releases issued Monday.

The first was reported about 11 p.m. Saturday, when a 24-year-old island man told deputies he had been robbed and carjacked while pumping gas, a release said.

The man said he was at a Gumtree Road gas station when a man with a gun approached, demanded his wallet and forced him to get into the car. The suspect got into the car and drove the victim to Old Wild Horse Lane and let the victim out, the release said.

The man was uninjured in the incident, the release said.

The car, which the victim had borrowed from a friend earlier that night, is a 1995 silver Nissan Sentra with South Carolina license plate BXK744, the release said.

The following night, a 15-year-old boy and 27-year-old man reported being robbed Sunday while on South Forest Beach near Coligny Park, a sheriff's office release said.

The 15-year-old told deputies he was walking along the sand at about 11:30 p.m. when he saw three men beating the 27-year-old to steal his wallet. The teenager rushed to the man's aid, but the suspects then grabbed the boy and held him down to steal his wallet, the release said.

One of the assailants told the two victims he had a gun but never brandished it, the release said.

The 27-year-old was taken to Hilton Head Hospital for cuts to his face.

No information on his condition was made available.

Descriptions of the suspects in both robberies were not available.
