Man jumps mulch pile with dirt bike, hits tree

A Bluffton man was hospitalized when he hit a tree after jumping a mulch pile with his dirt bike, according to a Beaufort County sheriff's report released Thursday.

Chris White, 43, of West Morningside Drive was taken by ambulance to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he was treated and released Wednesday night for minor head injuries.

A witness told deputies that White lost control of his bike after jumping the mulch on a friend's property and hit the tree at about 15 mph.

White was not wearing a helmet and had been drinking a beer before trying the stunt, the report said.
