Watercraft collision injures 2 riders

The collision of two personal watercraft near PinckneyIsland Boat landing around5:30 p.m. Saturday left two

people injured, Bluffton Township Fire District officials said.

One rider, a 23-year-old man, was flown by LifeStar helicopter to Savannah's Memorial University Medical Center with possible head, back, pelvis and chest injuries, Battalion Chief Todd Harvey said. The man was in stable condition Saturday night, Harvey said.

A second victim, a teenager, was taken to Hilton Head Hospital with a possible back injury, Harvey said. A third rider was uninjured, he said.

It was unclear if the riders on the two watercraft were together. It also was unclear how the crash occurred.

The riders were taken ashore by a private boat before emergency responders arrived, Harvey said.

The Bluffton Fire District, Beaufort County Sheriff'sOffice, Beaufort County

Emergency Medical Services and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources responded to the incident.
