Don't miss chance to learn, help country

On March 26 at the Hilton Head Island library, state Sen. Tom Davis held the first in a series of six "Talk to Tom" meetings. If you missed this meeting, I challenge you to attend one of his upcoming meetings. Here is why:

As American citizens, we need to take responsibility for our part in creating the challenges we face. We must work together, with our leaders, to find and implement positive solutions. We can do this by setting goals, developing plans and sharing ideas and facts with our leaders. We must hold our leaders accountable to fully review the information provided and to act in the best interests of our county, state and country.

I challenge all of our political leaders to hold their own town hall meetings, perhaps outlining the topics for each event.

The format and purpose of Davis' meeting was very simple. He told us who he is and why he thought it was important to hold these meetings. He said he would do his best to answer questions to our satisfaction, while still holding on to his values and beliefs. I believe he accomplished his purpose, and I look forward to the rest of his meetings.
