The driver of a sport utility vehicle that overturned Saturday killing one passenger and injuring another was charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence and not having a driver's license, S.C. Highway Patrol officials said Sunday.

Troopers said Frederico Sanchez, 28, of Hilton Head Island lost control of his 2000 Chevrolet Blazer in a curve along Marshland Road near the Cross Island Parkway toll booths around 1:35 p.m. causing the vehicle to roll.

The back seat passenger, Norberto Guerrero-Zuniga, 36, of Hilton Head died at the scene after he was ejected from the car, officials said.

Claudio Aguirre of Hilton Head, the front seat passenger, was flown by LifeStar, a medical helicopter service, to Savannah Memorial University Medical Center. His age and an update on his condition were not available Sunday.

Sanchez was treated at Hilton Head Hospital before being taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, officials said.

Sanchez was charged with felony DUI resulting in a death, felony DUI resulting in serious bodily injury and not having a driver's license, troopers said.

Along with a bond of $100,237, Sanchez was placed on an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement hold, the jail log said.

ICE holds are for inmates whose residency status is under investigation by immigration officials.

The Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the crash.
