Keep Beaufort County Beautiful coordinator Veronica Miller is asking residents to recycle their Christmas trees this year instead of dumping them into the landfill.

The county has set up seven drop-off locations that will remain open day and night through Jan. 10. Miller asks that all ornaments and lights be removed from the trees. Every year for the past 12 years, staff has received a few trees that still are decorated.

On Jan. 10, volunteers and county employees will grind the trees into mulch. The public is invited to visit any of the drop-off locations that day to pick up the mulch. The county will use whatever is left over for its landscaping needs.

Recycling locations:

• Bluffton: Ulmer Road near the county tennis courts

• Hilton Head Island: Coligny Beach parking lot; Gullah Flea Market on U.S. 278

• Northern Beaufort County: Sea Island Parkway next to the Huddle House; Pleasant Point Road at the Family Christmas Tree Farm; Beaufort Plaza at the Plaza Theaters; Naval Heritage Park off Ribaut Road.
