Golf cart joyriders trash Palmetto Hall courses

November 21, 2008

Four golf carts were stolen from Palmetto Hall and driven around the Hilton Head Island plantation's two golf courses last weekend, according to a Beaufort County sheriff's report released Thursday.

The golf course superintendent reported $4,000 worth of damage to the courses' carefully manicured fairways and greens and an additional $6,000 in damages to the carts, which had broken axles and cracked front ends and dashboards.

The superintendent said he suspected a golf course employee might have been involved, since the joyriders would have had to get past a gate and into a locked barn to get the carts, according to the report.
