• Army Pvt. Michael A. Burke has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia.

During the nine weeks of training, Burke studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Burke is the nephew of Jane McKinley of Bluffton.

• First Lt. M.J. Webb graduated from the U.S. Army's Ranger Course on Sept. 26. The course is divided into three phases: the Benning Phase, conducted at Camp Rogers and Camp Darby, Fort Benning, Georgia; the Mountain Phase, conducted at Camp Frank D. Merrill near Dahlonega, Ga.; and the Florida Phase, conducted at Camp James E. Rudder, Elgin Air Force Base, Florida. Webb, formerly of Bluffton, graduated from Camden Military Academy in 2001, and from The Citadel in 2005. He is attached to the 10th Mountain Division, 1-10 Combat Aviation Brigade. Webb's unit deploys Oct. 18. Webb is the son of Dotty Jo and Mike Webb from Bluffton.
