Hilton Head Island High School senior Rade Musulin tied for first place in the state chess championship.

Rade, 17, competed over the weekend in the event sponsored by the S.C. Chess Association. He tied in the amateur category, winning four out of a possible five points.

Rade has been playing chess since he was 4 and has placed in national and state championships. He was the state amateur champion in 2006.
