Two men were airlifted to a Savannah hospital after sustaining head injuries in unrelated incidents Wednesday night.

The first occurred on westbound William Hilton Parkway at 8:53 p.m. when a man lost control of a 1995 Ford Mustang and slammed into the wall of the bridge to Hilton Head Island.

A sheriff's deputy saw the collision and pursued the Hispanic driver into the woods, where the driver collapsed and lost consciousness. His identity had not been confirmed and the wreck is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The second man was found laying on the ground near the intersection of Pope Avenue and Cordillo Parkway at 10:42 p.m.after apparently riding his bike into a light pole. Police say the 57-year-old had been drinking. No information was available on either man's condition.
