A Virginia man has been connected to a second 2007 burglary on Hilton Head Island by a DNA database, according to a Beaufort County sheriff's report.

Trevor B. Meccariello, 18, of Chesterfield, Va., is serving time in a Virginia prison for burglary, breaking into a police cruiser and other charges, according to the Chesterfield Police Department.

After his conviction, his DNA profile was loaded into a national database. On June 16 the database connected him to a burglary at Nick's Steak and Seafood, 9 Park Lane, that occurred Aug. 24, 2007.

Last week, he was connected to a break-in that occurred on that same day in 2007 at Legendary Golf, 900 William Hilton Parkway, according to a sheriff's report.

Blood left at both crime scenes matched Meccariello's sample, the report stated.

Meccariello now faces two counts of second-degree burglary in Beaufort County. He will be extradited back to South Carolina when he is released from prison in Virginia.

Before the DNA matches, Meccariello was unknown to local law enforcement. He had never been arrested in the county.
