A Beaufort County Sheriff's deputy was among the injured late Thursday night after another driver pulled into his path at Festival Centre on U.S. 278 on Hilton Head Island, a member of the state's Highway Patrol said.

Deputy Christopher Cook, 32, was treated at Hilton Head Hospital for minor injuries following the two-car crash at 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Trevor Clinton identified the driver as Don Bolton, 52.

Bolton and one of the passengers in the Jeep he was driving also were treated at the hospital, according to State Highway Patrolman David Swinehamer. A third passenger, a child, wasn't injured. Swinehamer said the driver and his family are from Kentucky.

Bolton was charged with failure to yield right of way.

The deputy was traveling east at the time of the crash. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
