A wreck on Hilton Head Island early Sunday morning led to an emergency helicopter airlift, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Benito Pasion-Teran, 24, of Bluffton was traveling west on William Hilton Parkway when he lost control of his 1996 Plymouth mini-van and hit a tree just after 1:30 a.m., the patrol said.

Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue responded, and Pasion-Teran, the only person in the vehicle, was transported by helicopter from Hilton Head Island Airport to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

No further details about his condition were available Sunday night.
