BREAKFAST

Orange Breakfast Drink

1/2 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed

1/2 cup water

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup sugar

6 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in blender and process mixture until frothy. Serve immediately.

 

Papaya Yeast Drink

1 cup diced papaya

1 1/2 cup apple juice

1/2 banana

1 teaspoon honey

1 tablespoon Brewer's yeast powder

Blend all together in blender; serve immediately.

MID-MORNING

Snack-in-a-glass

1 (8 ounce) carton fruit flavored yogurt

1 cup unsweetened strawberries

2 teaspoons sugar

2 or 3 ice cubes

1 cup milk

1 egg

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

In blender container, place the yogurt, milk, fruit pieces, egg, sugar and vanilla extract. Cover blender and turn on high speed until mixture is frothy. While the blender is running, add ice cubes, one by one, through hole in lid of blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses. Serve immediately.

LUNCH

Tomato, celery and carrot crush

2 pounds carrots, chilled

2 celery stalks, chilled

1 pound tomatoes, chilled

Tabasco sauce, to taste

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Crushed ice, to serve

Using a juice extractor, push the carrots, celery and tomatoes through the juicer. Alternatively blend in a food processor with 1 cup water, then press through a stainer. Add salt, pepper and Tabasco to taste. Serve over crushed ice.

MID-AFTERNOON SNACK

Yogi Smoothie

This is an unusual drink, based on Indian spices, and a wonderful stress reducer.

1 cup skim milk

1 cup frozen nonfat yogurt

1 tablespoon sweetener

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

Pinch ground black pepper

Combine all ingredients in blender.

DINNER

Apricots and Apples

This is a good smoothie for those with high cholesterol.

1 cup drained canned apricots

1 apple, cored, peeled and sliced

1 cup apple juice

Combine all ingredients in blender.

Halloween has passed, and Thanksgiving is knocking on the door. One thing's for sure, if you do not plan for the holidays, they will pass you by while you are waiting in line for all the parties and gatherings.

I've begun to make my list of beverages. First, there have to be beverages to get you started on your day. It is these drinks that will give you the energy necessary to carry you through the day. What a wonderful time to set aside a day to make a toast to yourself as you plan the drinks for the season.

If you are in the same shoes as I am, only mental lists have been made. Ornaments have been purchased, but plans to make a few gifts are still in the planning stage. Today, let's do drinks and begin to prepare the shopping list.
