Ridgeland basketball teams roll past Hardeeville
The loudest cheers for the Ridgeland High School girls basketball team came after the Jaguars had left the court.
They didn't come during Ridgeland's 53-24 win over Hardeeville, bur rather prior to the boys game, when the entire team came out to sing the Star Spangled Banner.
Maybe that's because the Jaguars have few surprises left to show on the hardwood. Ridgeland's 29-point blowout of the Hurricanes gave the Jaguars an immaculate 14-0 record in Region 5-A heading into the Class 1-A playoffs.

Wesley Scott, not satisfied with his maroon shirt and black tie, pulled off his grey sweater and tugged on a hooded sweatshirt bearing the Miami (Ohio) University logo.
The Ridgeland defensive end never wavered from his verbal commitment to the RedHawks, making it official Wednesday at the Jasper County School District boardroom. Scott said he entertained no thoughts of other schools since committing last year.
Scott said RedHawks coaches want him at 280 pounds, up from the 235 he weighs now. A new diet and life in the weight room are on the horizon.

Three weeks after playing for the Class 3-A state football championship, Bluffton High School players and coaches sill haven't had much time to reflect on their team's record-breaking season.
Many players transitioned to basketball. Head coach Ken Cribb prepared for and coached on the Shrine Bowl staff. And linebacker Michael Grant started in the all-star game.
But given a moment, in the quiet confines of a school deserted for the holiday break, three of the Bobcats' key components reflected on a 14-1 season, which ended with a loss to South Pointe in Clemson's Memorial Stadium.

(full story)Week 10: Island's SCISAA rivals meet with region title on the line
If any other opponent were visiting Hilton Head Christian Academy tonight, Eagles coach Tommy Lewis might be concerned about his team's mind-set.
The Eagles are coming off a victory in a highly anticipated game at Thomas Heyward, and they might be looking ahead to the playoffs.
But not this week. Not with Hilton Head Prep up next.
(full story)Allendale-Fairfax forfeits give bump to 4 area teams
Four area teams turned a loss into a victory Wednesday, as Allendale-Fairfax was forced to forfeit its seven wins when the S.C. High School League ruled the Tigers used an ineligible player in all nine of their games so far this season.
High School League commissioner Jerome Singleton confirmed the ruling to the Orangeburg Times and Democrat on Wednesday.
That means losses to the Tigers turned into wins for Hilton Head Christian, Ridgeland High School, Hardeeville High School and Whale Branch High School.
(full story)Week 9: High stakes tonight in Berkeley for Bluffton
A region championship, a No. 1 ranking and a pair of winning streaks.
Plenty will be on the line tonight when Bluffton High School travels to Berkeley for a Region 7-AAA contest. The Bobcats can top the region for the second straight year with a victory, but a loss would allow Berkeley to control its own destiny toward a league title.
The Bobcats have won their first eight games of the year and found themselves on top of the S.C. Media Prep Poll this week for the first time in school history. Berkeley is on a roll of its own -- the Stags (4-4) have won three straight games and four of their past five after an 0-3 start to the year.
(full story)Week 8: Rebels, Dolphins in crucial region showdown
The post to Thomas Heyward Academy football coach Nic Shuford's Twitter account didn't say much: "October 8, 2010 - HHP beat THA 67-28."
It didn't need to.
The Rebels have looked forward to the rematch ever since, and with both teams entering tonight's game at Thomas Heyward's Harvey-Beach Stadium unbeaten in SCISAA Region 2-AA, the winner will earn a showdown with Hilton Head Christian Academy for the region title.
(full story)Week 7: Bluffton prepared for tougher test vs. Cane Bay
Back to basics. And ahead to the biggest test to date.
Bluffton High School will welcome region opponent Cane Bay to Bobcat Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff tonight in a matchup of a pair of teams with Region 7-AAA championship aspirations.
The Bobcats are hopeful their return to fundamentals this week will bode well for tonight's outcome -- they opened the week with a variety of preseason-type drills in an effort to increase intensity.
