BLUFFTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
EVENTS
• Kindergarten and first-grade students and their families are invited to attend Portfolio Night from 5:30-6 p.m. Tuesday and Kids Club from 6-7 p.m. The Kids Club theme will be a fall festival along with special treats provided by Jim 'N Nicks.
• Backyard Burger will host a Spirit Night for the Bluffton High School Chorus from 5-8:30 p.m. Thursday. Ten percent of the profits raised will go toward the chorus' Disney trip in December. The Bluffton High Chorus would appreciate the community's support.
• On Friday, wear your Spirit Shirt.
• Supercycles & ATV has donated a Hensim 50cc ATV, youth helmet, goggles, and one-year parts warranty. All proceeds will benefit the Bluffton Elementary field trip fund. Raffle tickets are available in the front office; one ticket for $3 or two tickets for $5.

HERITAGE ACADEMY
EVENTS
• Heritage Academy will distribute second quarter progress reports to students Tuesday.
OTHER
• The Leadership Council, under the direction of Tina Sprouse and co-chairwomen Bethany Dyar and Molly O'Koniewski, is sponsoring The Deep Well Project Food Drive at the school through Friday. They will be collecting food and monetary donations to be donated to the Deep Well Food Pantry for distribution to needy families in the Lowcountry.
HILTON HEAD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
EVENTS
• The middle school production of "The Legend of Sammy's Swamp" runs Thursday through Saturday nightly at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Main Street Theater. Tickets are available at the school or before shows at the box office.
• Parents of second- through eighth-grade students are invited to the school spelling bee at 8 a.m. Friday. The winners will compete in the SCISA regional spelling bee in January.
OTHER
• Students and parents in middle school can now access the Six Traits of Writing program through a link from the Web site. This interdisciplinary online program can be used by both students and parents. Go to the Student Resources page and use the link to log in.
• Second quarter midterm reports will be sent home with students Friday.
HELPING HANDS
• PTF wishes to thank parents for participating in this first collection of Box Tops for Education. To date, the school has earned more than $320. Please keep clipping and watch for the next collection date.

• Report cards come home Wednesday.
• The Boosterthon Fun Run is Thursday. Please note the time grade levels will be participating. Both Fun Runs will take place on the Red Playground. First run: Grades 1, 2 and 3, 9:30-11 a.m.; second run: Grades 4 and 5, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
• Bring in nonperishable food items for The Deep Well Project for the Thanksgiving holiday through Friday.
• Thanksgiving break begins Nov. 26.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SCHOOL FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS
EVENTS
• Fifth-graders will perform "Imagine" at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hilton Head Island High School Visual and Performing Arts Center. The performance will be directed by Patti Maurer.
• The PTA SEE Our Spirit fundraiser
has been a success. The school raised over $24,000 this year to be used for grade level performances, teacher allocations, field trips, and academic programs.
• "Food Night" will be held Thursday. Participating restaurants include Atlanta Bread Company, Chick-Fil-A and Domino's Pizza. Students can visit any of these locations and say they attend SCA, and a portion of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to the school.
• The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina's Adopt a School Program funded a presentation by Stephen Huneck, artist/author/illustrator Nov. 14 for third-graders. He is well-known for his books inspired by his black Lab, Sally. His books include "My Dog's Brain" and "Sally Goes to the Beach."
• Teachers attended a Crayola Dream Maker's visual arts and math integration workshop taught by Alana Adams, director of education at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
• The Student Council is collecting canned goods for The Deep Well Project until Friday.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL
ACHIEVEMENTS
• The following students were honored as "Stellar Stingrays" for the month of October for consistently exhibiting the IB character trait of"knowledgeable": Red Team -- seventh-grader Logan Ballard; White Team --sixth-grader Emma Walls, seventh-grader Julissa Pozos-Jonquitud; Blue Team -- sixth-grader Rachel Wilbourne, seventh-grader Amelia Rzeczycki; eighth-grade recipients -- Jackie Houle, Alex Reamy, Marius Stankevicius; arts elective -- Emily Crick, Whitney Halley;academic elective -- Sidney Forester, Shannon Short; ESOL -- Franccely Ibarra. These students and their parents attended a recognition breakfast sponsored by the PTA on Oct. 23.
MEETINGS
• The PTA will hold a general meeting from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday in portable classroom P-4. A discussion will continue regarding the PTA's monetary assistance with school and student body needs. All parents are welcome.
• The School Improvement Council will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the media center. All parents are welcome.
HELPING HANDS
• The school is collecting nonperishable canned goods for The Deep Well Project daily through Nov. 24. The homeroom turning in the highest total weight of cans will receive a pizza party and the second place homeroom will be treated to ice cream in the bistro. The Student Council is coordinating this annual can drive.
EVENTS
• Eighth-grade language arts students are attending a production titled "Encore" Nov. 17 at the Savannah Civic Center. The performance will be followed by a picnic at Jarvis Creek Park. Students need to bring their own lunch.
• The PTA will be sponsoring an Honor Roll Breakfast for all 320 students who achieved the A-B Honor Roll for the first quarter at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 18 in the cafeteria.
• The PTA will be sponsoring an Honor Roll lunch Wednesday for the 116 students who achieved the Principal's All A Honor Roll for the first quarter at Giuseppi's Pizza & Pasta in Shelter Cove.
• Principal Sherry DeSimone will be treating the six top-selling cookie dough students Tommy Vater, Haley Holland, Christian Jenkins, Ian Borton, Katelyn Helmuth and Francisco Ferre to ice cream sundaes at 1 p.m. Friday at Ritters on Main Street.
• The cafeteria will be serving Thanksgiving dinner during lunch periods Wednesday. Parents are invited to have lunch with their students on this day. Cost is $3. For reservations, call 843-689-4500.
• Thunderbash is scheduled for Nov. 25 for students who sold five boxes or more of cookie dough. Eligible students must return signed permission slips to their homeroom teacher no later than Friday in order to participate.
• Earthstock '08 celebration will be held from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 6 on the school field next to the tennis courts. Music, food, fun events and auction items will be available.
• A fundraising spaghetti dinner will be held in the cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 10. This is the same night as the chorus, strings and band's winter concert. The money raised will go toward scholarships for eighth-grade students to attend the Washington, D.C., trip next spring.
MICHAEL C. RILEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
EVENTS
• Students who make honor roll for the first quarter will be honored at an Honor Roll Celebration at 6:30 p.m. today. Parents and students are invited to attend.
• The Booster-Thon Fun Run will be held Wednesday.
• Student Council members and ESOL students will hold a Holiday Yard Sale from 7 a.m.-noon Saturday. Items for sale include toys and various holiday trinkets. Money from the yard sale will be used to assist students with costs associated with field trips. The sale will be held in front of M.C. Riley Elementary School, 200 Burnt Church Road. • In celebration of American Education Week, the school invites parents to a "Coffee with the Principal" at 8:45 a.m. today in the media center. The topic for the coffee will be open to parents.
OKATIE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
EVENTS
• On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Okatie Elementary School will present "101 Dalmatians KIDS." Tickets available at the door. The student art exhibit and silent auction will be before the show. Doors open at 6 p.m., and seating for the show will be at 6:30 p.m.
• After school tennis meets at 3:45-4:45 p.m. today in the gym for third- through fifth-graders who have signed up.
• SIC meets at noon Tuesday.
• Young Astronauts will meet at 3:30-4:40 p.m. Tuesday.
• Lifetouch to retake pictures Wednesday. You must return your complete previous packet in order to have new ones taken. Pictures will be used in the yearbook. Forms are in the front office.
• Thanksgiving Luncheon will be Thursday. Families are invited to join their child in the school cafetorium. You must have returned a form to your child's teacher to attend. Scheduled times: 10-10:45 a.m., third grade; 10:50-11:35 a.m., kindergarten; 11:40 a.m.-12:10 p.m., fifth grade; 12:10-12:45 p.m., fourth grade; 12:50-1:20 p.m., first grade; 1:25-2 p.m., second grade;
• Second- and fifth-graders will be heading up the canned-food drive, collecting canned goods until Friday.
• Bring all donations by Dec. 5 for Support Our Troops.
• Sprint Across America has 6,559 miles left thanks to second grade, which logged 15 miles; third grade, 219 miles; fourth grade, 22 miles; fifth grade, 47 miles. This week's total: 303 miles.
ST. FRANCIS CATHOLIC SCHOOL
EVENTS
• Progress reports will be sent home Tuesday.
• The next Squirrel's Club "Bank in School" will be held from 7:45 a.m.-8:15 a.m. Wednesday in the school lobby.
• School picture orders are due back to the school office by Friday.
• To help those less fortunate, students will be collecting non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving Baskets. The donations need to be in school by Friday. The school office has a list of needed items.
• The Family School Association will be hosting its annual pot luck dinner for the school families from 6-9 p.m. Friday. The families who attend are asked to bring a covered dish to share.
